We’re sorry we missed you this year, but, once again, we had a great time at our Stella Hotel event, the weekend of May 22nd! In 2019, pre COVID-19, we had almost 60 attendees. Sadly, in 2020 this event had to be canceled. In 2021 we were up and running again but think COVID-19 kept most of you away because we only had 18 attendees. Next year, your Board is looking at mixing things up a bit as we’re looking at combining our annual Bluebonnet Run with the Stella Hotel Banquet, perhaps the second weekend in April. Stay tuned.
As usual, most of us met at the Starbucks in Vintage Park. From there our caravan proceeded up to Navasota for lunch at Mallett Bros. BBQ. After a great meal and visit, we proceeded to the Museum of the American GI. The Museum of the American G.I. is a living history museum dedicated to preserving the equipment, uniforms and memories of all American Servicemen and women. It is one of the finest collections in the US of restored, running WWI, WWII and later era military vehicles including a WWI FT-17 tank, WWII Sherman tanks, M18 Hellcat, River Patrol Boat, and various other vehicles. What really makes this museum unique is its ability to exhibit the vehicles and weapons in action. This Museum restores and maintains the equipment so the public can hear and see the equipment move under its own power. All vehicles and equipment on display are fully restored and functional. Also on display is an extensive collection of historic WWI and WII propaganda posters as well as uniforms from WWI to Vietnam War worn by American Servicemen and women.
Following the museum tour, our caravan headed North to The Stella Hotel. After getting checked in and settled, we headed downstairs for cocktails at Hershel’s Bar followed by a Chicken Marsala dinner in the Celeste A ball room. Our guest speaker for the evening was the very informative, Gregory D. Winfree, J.D. the Director, Agency Program Manager at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. At the conclusion of our banquet, it was back to Hershel’s for some live music and a night cap. In the morning, we all met at the Stella Hotel’s Campfire Restaurant for breakfast and more socializing before heading home.
A great time was had by all! And for those we missed this year, we hope to see y’all next year!
